Woodbridge, ON, June 24, 2010 – SANYO Canada Inc. (SANYO), a subsidiary of SANYO Electric Co., Ltd., today introduces Canadian musicians to ‘Pedal Juice,’ a rechargeable, portable DC 9V battery unit to revolutionize the way portable power is managed for music devices. ‘Pedal Juice’ will be distributed to the music channel through B&J Music Ltd. and available at leading music retailers nationwide, at an MSRP of $199.99 CAD.

SANYO first demonstrated its ‘Pedal Juice’ in North America at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California in January and also exhibited it at the MIAC Show in Toronto in May as part of the ‘eneloop universe’ series of products, under the category of ‘eneloop music booster.’

SANYO, utilizing its background as a world-leading rechargeable battery supplier, realized the need in the music industry for portable, stable, and reusable power, the type that rechargeable batteries can provide. In developing ‘Pedal Juice,’ SANYO aims to make the music industry more aware of how energy is used, and to promote lifestyles of reusing and recycling.

Power is needed for many music devices, including effects units, amps, graphic equalizers, and multi-track recorders, which typically have power provided through an AC adapter or a 9V dry cell battery (9V laminated battery). Musicians using AC adapters are limited to performance locations with electrical outlets, and can be faced with “ground loop” issues that cause an annoying hum in the audio signal. While 9V dry cell batteries offer the convenience of portability, dry cell batteries need to be replaced before exhausted to prevent any disruption during a performance, leading to the wasting of battery power, inconveniencing the musician while adding to landfills.

‘Pedal Juice’ has been designed to offer stable, long-lasting portable 9V DC power with a high-capacity rechargeable lithium-ion battery to encourage a music style that matches the eneloop lifestyle of reusing and recycling energy. Using clean, portable DC power during performance, the music is interference-free to allow the absolute best performance possible.

“SANYO is reshaping the way the music industry uses power with our new ‘Pedal Juice’ product,” said Bryan Asa, General Manager, Consumer Batteries , SANYO Canada. “By offering our energy and environmental technologies to  musicians, we are supplying valuable tools to maximize performance while raising awareness of the environment.”

Based on the ‘eneloop’ rechargeable battery launched in 2005, an entire of series of products known as the ‘eneloop universe’ have been designed and created with energy and the environment in mind. In the ‘eneloop universe’ product series, there are a number of useful everyday products, including the ‘eneloop bike,’ a hybrid pedal assist bicycle, the ‘eneloop solar light,’ an emergency light and flashlight powered by the sun, and the ‘eneloop kairo,’ a stylish hand warmer using batteries to heat the hands only when needed, great for outdoor gigs for musicians.
